This time, we invited several artists to remix or rework the same track – La Bête Noire, a piece that has become something of a mockART classic. Each contributor approached it from a different angle, resulting in a series of radically diverse versions that reinterpret the original in unexpected ways, showing the many faces of La Bête Noire.

Some stay close to the haunting atmosphere of the source, others dismantle it completely and rebuild it from scratch. What emerged is a fragmented but coherent narrative—a kind of sonic myth, told through many voices.

The album begins with the original version and ends with a live recording from last year’s performance at the Rush Hour Kulturfestival. These two versions frame the story.

The cover artwork – designed by rabirius – shows the eye of La Bête Noire, with the reflection of a woman running away inside the iris. A subtle nod to the album’s themes of pursuit, fear, and transformation.

This time, the beast doesn’t just think about leaving its grotto—it steps out into the night, roaming the town and even taking a spin on the dance floor.

These latest releases feature two thrilling collaborations. La Bête Noire rôde dans la ville is a remix by Urhixidur, who previously wowed us with their take on The Takeover. They return to add their distinctive flair, capturing the essence of a beast on the prowl. Meanwhile, La Bête Noire danse, remixed by Ubaldo, takes the energy up a notch, translating the beast’s newfound freedom into a dynamic, danceable rhythm.

These tracks build on the success of our earlier remixes, La Bête Noire dans sa grotte by Pharmakustik and La Bête Noire pense à quitter sa grotte by Baco_Giovanni Cristino. Each remix breathes fresh life into La Bête Noire, offering listeners a new perspective on the track’s evolving narrative.

But that’s not all! We’re also hard at work on a brand new album featuring original material, and preparations for our first live performance on September 8th in Frankfurt are in full swing. There’s so much more to come, so stay tuned for further updates!

After completing views | interrupted we noticed that we didn’t include any guest musicians. Therefore we were wondering what it would have sounded like if we had involved further musicians – and so the idea for a views | remixed was born.

We decided to remix all six tracks of the original album and found some fellow musicians who agreed to remix some of the tracks. Whispered, Medicine Lake, Urhixidur and Morteza Jahangiri all gave their best and we both agree that their versions of our music surpass the usual remix and became a new track entirely. So, of course, we are completely happy with the results.

As the original material was more ambient and completely without beats we also decided to experiment with beats and loops and also created new versions of two tracks that are also included in the original album.

If you have not heard the original album yet, we also decided to offer it as a free download on Bandcamp for a limited period. So hurry!

You might remember that views | interrupted was part of an art exhibition that featured pictures by rabirius. Therefore he remixed his pictures for the cover artwork. The video clips for the singles Parklife, The Takeover and (Trapped) Between Towers were animated versions of the pictures in the exhibition, so they are – sort of – also remixed versions.

As you can see, we tried to play with the concept of remixes quite a lot and gave our best to reshape, rearrange and reassemble the material at hand to create something entirely new.

We are currently working with some artists on a remix album with tracks taken from views | interrupted. The first remix of Between Towers is nearly a trippy pop song and we want to introduce it to you as a single. So don’t get trapped between the towers.

As always, we released the single to all the major streaming platforms and we also made a video clip for the track. You will find all the relevant links in the streaming section.

The remix was done by me (rabirius). I thought about the bass line that we used in the original version and build the remix from that.

We will release a further remix in early January, so stay tuned!

The new remix EP called Men Who Found Their Remix was released today. All four track will feature on the forthcoming mockART album Men Who Lost Their Heads. The alternative versions were remixed by Andreas Brettschneider (Gahzed, Lume, Monomatik), Mark Daelmans-Sikkel and Stefan Waidhas (Sterion Music).

This album is part of the Communal Music series. AEMC created this ongoing experiment as an exploration of the usage of audio sources, the methodology of experimental ambient composers and sound in general.

Beforehand, each composer contributed audio – recorded instruments, field recordings, analog synthesizers, etc – resulting in a collective sample pack. The composers then had to translate this audio material to a musical composition. They weren’t allowed to add anything, so each composition is made with the same audio material.

It is striking to hear how the audio is interpreted, used and contextualized differently by the individual composers and how diverse and unique the compositions are. This clarifies the agency of the creators: they – not the audio – make the music. On the other hand, the audio sources demarcate a certain musical terrain, similar as to the limits of an acoustic instrument.

Above all, the Communal Music series is a celebration of experimental music and the collaboration between – often underappreciated – artists.
