For a brief moment, we were surprised and – let’s admit it – excited: one of our older tracks, Resistencia, suddenly racked up nearly 1,500 plays in a single day on Spotify. We had no idea where the listens came from, the stats gave us no clues, but it was still a milestone.

Fast forward six months, and the whole album – Men Who Lost Their Heads – was removed by Spotify due to “suspicious activity.” Whether it was bots or a shady playlist, we were never told. But the result was clear: the album was gone.

We’ve now re-uploaded a remastered version to all streaming platforms, titled Men Who Lost Their Heads (Again).

Usually, we’re not fans of endless remasters. But in this case, we had so many versions floating around that we weren’t even sure which mix was “the original” any more. It also gave us the chance to properly credit all the guest musicians—who, until now, were only listed on the CD and our website. They deserve more visibility, and this remaster does just that. The album is available again everywhere. And for those interested in how various streaming platforms handle music and artists, rabirius has reviewed them in detail on his website.

Compilation Appearances

Two exclusive tracks have recently found new homes on experimental music compilations:

🎧 Køksspæl appears on Songs of Things, a tribute to the pioneers of musique concrète. No instruments were used—only kitchen tools. Think glasses, bottles, a toaster, a hand blender. Think noise turned musical.

“This is the practice of an unconditioned view of the surrounding world… the pure joy of experimentation.” — AEMC

🎧 Ritus Verni is featured on Communal Music Vol. 14, part of AEMC’s ongoing series exploring sample-based composition. Every composer used the same limited set of audio samples—but the results are entirely individual. Our track turns those sounds into a kind of ritual celebrating the arrival of spring. The whole compilation album was mastered by rabirius.

We have released a new track for the compilation One Minute Compositions by AEMC Records. The track is called Diantara Domba and is exactly one minute long. You can download the whole compilation from Bandcamp. As you might remember, we have already released another one minute composition for one of their earlier compilations which you can still download.

We are still working on our new album Men Who Lost Their Heads and we hope to release it in early summer. In the meantime, we decided to release a remix ep. It will feature three remixes of tracks taken from the new album plus an alternative version of another track. Therefore we decided to call it Men Who Found Their Remix. The ep will be out on April 9th on Bandcamp plus streaming sites like Spotify, iTunes, YouTube and more. We will announce the details around the publishing date.

mockART recorded a new track called Kulman Takana for the compilation Communal Music Vol. 7 by AEMC Records. The album also features a track by Mark Daelmans-Sikkel who has contributed some vocals for the forthcoming mockART album Men Who Lost Their Heads. In total the compilation features 19 tracks by various artists who experiment with music. For this album each musician had to contribute two samples and all the music was composed by working with the collection of these samples. AEMC describes the process as follows:

This album is part of the Communal Music series. AEMC created this ongoing experiment as an exploration of the usage of audio sources, the methodology of experimental ambient composers and sound in general.

Beforehand, each composer contributed audio – recorded instruments, field recordings, analog synthesizers, etc – resulting in a collective sample pack. The composers then had to translate this audio material to a musical composition. They weren’t allowed to add anything, so each composition is made with the same audio material.

It is striking to hear how the audio is interpreted, used and contextualized differently by the individual composers and how diverse and unique the compositions are. This clarifies the agency of the creators: they – not the audio – make the music. On the other hand, the audio sources demarcate a certain musical terrain, similar as to the limits of an acoustic instrument.

Above all, the Communal Music series is a celebration of experimental music and the collaboration between – often underappreciated – artists.

You can download the album from AEMC Records on Bandcamp.
